The knee joint is one of the strongest joints of a human body, and it provides mobility, and supports the weight of the body. It distributes and absorbs force and shock. Knee pain is a widespread issue that affects people due to injuries from overuse, sports, wear and tear, arthritis, muscle stiffness, and a few other reasons. To resolve knee pain, we may require pain relievers, Medical Yoga therapy, physical therapy, diet for managing discomfort; and aromatherapy could also very well supplement the treatment.
Aromatherapy uses essential oils extracted from various parts of trees, plants and seeds, mixed well with carrier oils. Natural compounds of extracts can help in improving blood circulation, relieving inflammation, managing pain, bringing relief, and promoting relaxation.
For topical applications always dilute essential oils with a carrier oil like sesame oil, almond oil, jojoba, castor, wheatgerm or coconut oil. Here is a list of essential oils and their properties which could help in relieving inflammation and swelling.
Lavender oil: has anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and calming effects. It helps reduce swelling, relieves pain, promotes relaxation, and eases muscle tension.
Wintergreen oil: contains methyl salicylate, a natural pain reliever. It reduces inflammation, relieves muscle spasms, and soothes pain.
Turmeric oil: rich in curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound. Used for centuries in Indian and Chinese medicine for its healing properties.
Frankincense oil: great for easing muscle stiffness, promoting joint health, and enhancing flexibility.
Nutmeg oil: soothes aching joints and muscles, reduces muscle spasms, and alleviates stress.
Cajuput oil: its warming effect relieves pain, reduces swelling, and boosts blood circulation to speed up recovery.
Peppermint oil: the menthol in peppermint oil provides a cooling effect, reduces inflammation, and improves blood circulation.
Eucalyptus oil: helps reduce swelling, improve blood flow, and relieve joint stiffness and pain.
Ginger oil: rich in gingerol and zingerone, known for strong anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. Its warming properties improve circulation, reduce stiffness, and ease soreness.
