Lower back pain (Lumbar Spondylosis)

Everyone, at least once in his lifetime suffers from lower back pain. The pain may be due to some disease or injury to the muscles, bones, and/or nerves of the spine.

I, Dr Deepak Sachdeva myself had severe lower back pain and used to take 12 pills a day. 4 morning, 4 afternoon and 4 at night.

The pain was so bad that all possible treatments were going simultaneously. Naturopathy, massage, heat packs, ointments, rest, a hard bed, a good diet, and every other possible treatment was ON. After all, I had 5 doctors in my family.

The best possible treatment couldn't do much.

But today I'm living a life free of lower back pain and also doing all possible activities that I could not even think of earlier.

I have undergone intensive army training camps, half Marathons, 21 km Steeple chase, river rafting, scuba diving, intensive yoga training, and non-stop working for 3 to 5 weeks with 3 to 5 hrs of sleep often. Lifting weights, carrying heaving weights over the mountains, to long drives.

So, I want to tell you that after doing all of these physically demanding activities regularly in the past 2 decades still living pain-free is possible.

That's what I teach and this is what Medical Yoga therapy is all about. The DS 3-phase method gives a long-term permanent solution to your lower back pain.

Not just me, but listen to what Dr Munish Gupta had to say when we got diagnosed with two slip discs one in the Neck and One in the Lower back. He was advised by his Orthopaedic friend to undergo surgery.

10 years have passed since his treatment. Pain has Not resurfaced and he is doing surgery on his patients on day to day basis. Listen to this conversation in the video on this page.

Medical Yogic Therapy for lower back pain - A Robust Cure Sequence of Asanas

Medical Yoga Centre is known for its results. Our special M.Y. Techniques are excellent in Lumbar Disc-Decompression, restoring the muscle balance around the spine, re-aligning the Lumbar curvature, and relieving pinched nerves.

M Y Techniques are technical yet simple. Results are visible from the first Session and keep improving with every passing session.

A very important feature of the M Y Techniques is that you can practice some of it at home as well and save your precious time and visits. It’s aimed at relieving the pain, strengthening the entire Lumbar region & restoring the natural behavior of the Lumbar region. All of this is achieved without any medicine, injection, surgery, or even any ointment. It’s all done by the natural M Y Techniques.

A special sequence comprising medically modified asanas is designed for the patient. This sequence is then done with the help of yoga props. We use props that are commonly available at home like pillows, chairs, stools, etc.

Props are appropriately used to make the 'Saadhaka' comfortable and gain from the posture. The asanas are aimed at relieving the pain and strengthening the area to cure the ailment.

Medical Yoga Therapy addresses all these problems through a medically designed asana sequence for recovering from lower back pain.
  • muscles of the lower back are relaxed
  • releases disc compression.
  • muscular spasm is relieved
  • muscular balance between the right and left side of the body is restored
  • muscle balance between the front and back sides of the body is restored
  • Overall health and flexibility of the spine is improved

Lumbar Spondylosis Sciatica ID no: P2106/camp/28

Patient’s details: Radha Grover (name changed) Gender/Age: Female / 32 years

The patient joined Medical Yoga sessions for 7 days at a special camp. She was asked to attend the sessions for 1 hour every day and was given a sequence of 2 asanas for home practice 10 mins each.

Patient had complaint/s of:

  • Lower back pain radiating to the left thigh
  • Pain in both hip muscles Right > Left
  • cramps in legs Patient also has Acidity headache giddiness & pain in left shoulder and upper back.

Clinical examination:

Shows swelling and tenderness at the C7 region

Tenderness over supra-scapular region.

Allopathic treatment

  • Pain blockers
  • Muscle relaxants
  • Antacids

Physiotherapy sessions for a few weeks for lower back and sciatic pain but didn’t get significant relief.

Medical Yoga therapy: The patient came to a 7-day medical yoga pain relief workshop. After a clinical check-up & going through the patient’s medical reports, medically modified asanas mentioned here were prescribed:

Asanas that were done during the treatments:

  • Vipreet Karni 1 with one stool and 1 pillow
  • Ek pad supt Gomukh asana
  • Reverse Bhekasana with 1 yellow belt
  • Supta padangusth asana 1 with rope

Vipreet karni: To release the stiffness in the lumbar region muscles (quadrates lumboram) muscle and illiocostalist muscle). Also to restore the natural curve of the lumbar spine (lumbar lordosis).

Gomukh asana: To release the pressure on the sciatic nerve of the six deep lateral rotator muscles in the hip joint. Also improves the range of motion of the hip joint so that the forward bending movement in day-to-day life is done from both the hip joint and lumbar region. This significantly reduced the pressure of the lumbar discs and eventually on the lumbar nerves during forward bend.

Reverse BhekAsana:

Supta padangusth asana with rope:

Thereafter the progress made during 5 days of Medical Yoga sessions is given below.

BEFORE the Treatment
  • Pain in lower back
  • Both thigh pain
  • Cramps in calves
AFTER the Treatment
  • 70% relieved.
  • Relieved 70%.
  • Completely okay

100% pain relief is achieved in 3 to 4 weeks.

As patients suffer from pain and restricted motion, the asanas and therapies are done differently with the use of props and belts to ease the poses and provide maximum benefit.
These therapies should only be performed under expert guidance to avoid any complications.
