Increased flexibility of the spine with longitudinal and rotational stretches

It is very important for a person suffering from ankylosing spondylitis to follow a few important rules in daily life. First of all, is following a disciplined life (nityaniyama) where a person needs to stretch his spine as a daily routine for easy movements to reduce pain, stiffness & inflammation of the spine. He should learn the correct posture of the body by equal distribution of weight over the legs while standing, walking and sitting, finally learning to relax muscles consciously through relaxation techniques and using them on an everyday basis. Following are the basic postures which are taught at Medical yogaTM center. They should be learned under the guidance of yoga expert only, for a better experience.

1. Vertical Arm Stretch:

It improves the flexibility of the spine and stretches the spine and hip flexors. This pose help in easing the pain and stiffness by stretching the spine right from the neck lower down up to coccyx. It Increases range of motion by relaxing the muscles. It helps to reverse degenerative tissue by improving physical strength and posture.

Yoga works as alternative medicine influenced by the ancient Indian practice of Hatha Yoga. The medical yoga postures are designed with emphasis given on proper alignment and execution to improve flexibility, balance, and strength.

Along with yoga practice it is important to have a change in lifestyle which includes:

Satvic food which helps in cleansing the bowel improves digestion and clears the mind. A diet which supplies sufficient and adequate nutrients required by the body is called a sattvic diet. Eat a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables, which contains important vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin E. Avoid foods which can lead to any kind of discomfort.

Eat foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, such as cold water fish (salmon, mackerel, and herring), flaxseed, rapeseed (canola) oil, soya bean oil, pumpkin seeds, and walnuts.

Get plenty of sleep which helps a person recover from the flare up quickly.

Avoid staying in one position for too long.

In Ayurveda, it is explained that the human body is like a mass spread in ether or space with elements of water, Fire, and Air and any imbalance in these result in disease. These bodily distortions are caused by distortions in the element space. Yoga is high-tech space science, It deals with the spaces between the vertebre for the exiting never root.
